The Philosophy - Principles of Coherent Living”

Every meaningful life is shaped by relationships.

Between people, place, & legacy. Beauty and belonging. Memory and meaning.

A Way of Seeing is the philosophy that underpins every aspect of my work. Whether through design, astrology, writing or private advisory,

The medium changes. The philosophy never does.

Depth Design Direction

Every engagement begins with the same question: What relationships are shaping the moment?

Whether we are exploring a home, a life transition, an astrology cycle or a question of purpose, the work is never about isolated parts. It is about understanding the patterns that quietly connect them.

Different conversations. One Philosophy.

The Medium Changes. The Philosophy Never Does.

The Evolution of a Way of Seeing.

Intellectual Lineage

The Thread Has Always Been the Same: Long before biophilic design, regenerative communities and wellbeing became widely discussed, I found myself asking a simple question: How do we create places that restore life rather than diminish it? That question has quietly shaped every project, every piece of writing and every conversation throughout my career.

From Vision to Practice

For more than three decades, my work has explored the relationship between people, place and belonging. Across environmental design, internationally recognised projects, writing, astrology, and private advisory work, the disciplines have evolved, yet the underlying philosophy has remained unchanged. Beauty is never separate from meaning. Design is never separate from relationship.

Recognition Along the Way

In 2009, under my leadership as founder of Awaken Designs, Sunrise at 1770 received First Runner-Up in the Environmental Category at the FIABCI World Prix d’Excellence Awards. The recognition affirmed something practice had already taught me: Places designed with integrity create healthier relationships between people, the community, and the natural world. It was never simply about buildings. It was about how we choose to live.

Where the Journey Has Led

Today my work continues through A Way of Seeing. Whether I am writing an essay, exploring an astrological chart, advising on an interior or supporting someone through a period of transition, I am asking the same question: What relationships are shaping this moment?

The medium changes. The philosophy never does.

Biophilic Living

Biophilic living is often described as bringing nature into the home. I see it differently. It is not simply the inclusion of plants, natural materials or expansive views. It is the restoration of relationship. Throughout history, people have instinctively sought connection with the living world.

  • Courtyards gathered light and air.

  • Verandas softened the threshold between inside and outside.

  • Gardens became places of reflection.

  • Stone, timber and water carried the memory of the landscapes from which they came.

Long before biophilia became a contemporary design movement, humans understood that our relationship with the natural world shapes our wellbeing. The language has changed. The relationship has not—the medium changes. The philosophy never does. Within A Way of Seeing, biophilic living is not approached as a design trend or a checklist of features. It begins with a different question.

  • What is our relationship with living systems?

  • How does light shape our experience of time?

  • How does a room change when it honours the seasons rather than shutting them out?

  • What does water teach us about stillness?

  • What memories do natural materials carry into a home?

  • How do landscapes shape identity, belonging and the rhythms of everyday life?

These questions move beyond aesthetics. They invite us to consider how design influences not only what we see but also how we live. For me, biophilic living is an expression of a broader philosophy. It recognises that nothing exists in isolation.

  • Home is a relationship between people, place and memory.

  • Design is a relationship between architecture, material and atmosphere.

  • Nature is not decoration.

It is one of the oldest conversations humanity has ever had. The work of design is not to imitate nature. It is to restore our relationship with it. Because when we change that relationship, we change the way we experience home.

Private Advisory

Some periods of life call for more than advice.

They call for perspective.

I work privately with individuals, founders, creatives and decision-makers navigating moments of transition, complexity or significant change.

Rather than offering predetermined solutions, I help reveal the deeper relationships shaping your circumstances, bringing clarity to what is emerging and confidence to what comes next.

Drawing on more than three decades across design, symbolism, environmental thinking, astrology and lived experience, each conversation is tailored to the person rather than the problem.

Engagements are private, thoughtful and highly individual.

Areas of focus include:

• Life transitions and reinvention

• Home, property and relocation decisions

• Business and creative direction

• Relationships between people and place

• Long-term vision and decision-making

• Personal clarity and meaningful change

“Everything speaks. Most of us have simply forgotten how to notice.

“Every significant decision begins with seeing differently.”

A Way of Seeing begins with paying attention.”

“The most important things in life are rarely hidden. They are simply overlooked.”

The world is always revealing itself. Wisdom lies not in looking harder, but in learning how to see.”

“Beauty is never separate from meaning. When we learn to recognise the relationships shaping our lives, clarity naturally follows.”

“Every place has a story. Every person has a pattern. Every life is shaped by the relationships between them.”

“We do not simply inhabit places. We enter into relationship with them. The way we see those relationships changes the way we live.”
